Fort Wayne, Ind. — Easterseals Northeast Indiana will host an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 30 to celebrate the new makerspace at the organization’s Fort Wayne facility. The space designed to inspire creativity and innovation is supported by grants from AWS Foundation and GM Foundation.
The makerspace is a hands-on environment for individuals of all ages and abilities to explore a variety of interests. The space is set up with five zones:
- hands-on building
- design and discovery
- interactive play and problem-solving
- creative expression
- entrepreneurship and life skills
“The new makerspace makes learning fun and accessible by giving people opportunities to explore and experiment,” said Donna K. Elbrecht, Easterseals Northeast Indiana CEO. “The equipment and curriculum will allow the people we serve to try new things, which creates a powerful sense of accomplishment and builds confidence.”
The grant funds from AWS Foundation and GM Foundation helped purchase equipment, supplies, curriculum and training from 1st Maker Space.
“We’re excited that individuals will have the opportunity to explore their creativity,” said AWS Foundation Chief Program Officer Joni Schmalzried. “This program can unlock potential vocations and hobbies for participants.”
