The Northeast Indiana Disability Advocacy Coalition (NEIDAC) has launched an initiative to provide free transportation to persons with disabilities for early voting. See the full video announcement here.
Numerous studies have shown that voters with disabilities struggle with getting to the polls for a number of reasons. One is fear of illness, another is inaccessibility to a physical ballot booth and the need for special voting machines, lack of training for poll workers, and many more, according to Pew Research.
A way to eliminate some of the hinderances placed on persons with disabilities is to provide free transportation to early voting, allowing polling locations to be less crowded. This is what NEIDAC has orchestrated. In partnership with Community Transportation Network (CTN) and The League, rides will be provided for free in order to help voters get to the polls early.
