United Way of DeKalb County Supports Easterseals Angola

Angola, Ind. — Easterseals Angola is proud to announce that it has been awarded a generous grant of $10,000 from United Way of DeKalb County. This vital funding will support the continuation and enhancement of day programming for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Angola area.

The grant will help offset operating costs associated with Easterseals Northeast Indiana’s day services program, which offers a wide range of engaging and person-centered activities designed to promote independence, community involvement, and personal growth. These services take place at the Angola location and are thoughtfully tailored to meet the diverse needs and interests of each participant.

Key components of the day programming include:

  • Individualized activities created in collaboration with local businesses and organizations to ensure meaningful community connections and opportunities for inclusion.

  • Ballroom dance classes, led by experienced professionals from Fred Astaire Dance Studios, which encourage physical activity, confidence, and self-expression through movement.

  • Karate instruction provided by Lions Karate, offering participants a fun and structured way to build strength, coordination, discipline, and focus.

  • Life skills education, covering essential topics such as financial literacy, time management, personal hygiene, housekeeping, health and wellness, meal preparation, and safe internet practices—empowering individuals to live more independently.

  • Esports programming made possible through a partnership with Trine University, which introduces participants to teamwork, strategic thinking, and inclusive recreational gaming in a supportive environment.

These comprehensive programs aim to enhance quality of life by fostering skill development, improving communication and social interactions, increasing readiness for employment, and supporting participants in achieving their personal goals. By investing in meaningful and enriching day services, Easterseals Angola is creating opportunities for individuals with disabilities to thrive both within the center and throughout the community.

Easterseals Northeast Indiana expresses sincere gratitude to United Way of DeKalb County for its continued partnership and commitment to making a lasting impact on the lives of people with disabilities.
