Supported Employment in Action at Arden Companies
A group of participants from Easterseals Northeast Indiana Fort Wayne has been making an impact at a Fort Wayne factory since April, helping to brighten patios and backyards across the U.S. and Canada through meaningful, hands-on work.
Ten individuals from the Projects Drive Group form a supported employment team at the Arden Companies plant, located just north of Fort Wayne International Airport. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. five days a week, the team packages colorful outdoor pillows that end up in stores like Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Canadian Tire. Most members of the team work two or three days per week, based on their preferences and availability.
Meeting Workforce Needs Through Inclusive Employment
Filling Gaps with Purpose
The supported employment team joins about 100 other employees in a facility that includes manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution. Like many companies, Arden’s Fort Wayne operation has struggled to fill all available positions. Plant Manager Travis Kinyo said the demand is so steady, Arden might not need to implement the usual seasonal layoffs this year.
The Easterseals Northeast Indiana Fort Wayne crew plays a key role in keeping up with production. Their task is detail-oriented and physically active: pulling outdoor pillows from bins, tagging them, bagging them in sets of four, and compressing them for shipping.
These outdoor cushions are designed to endure rain, temperature changes, and long-term use—making the work both important and rewarding.

“I like working with different people. I like the money!” Molly said.
“You meet new people,” Rose added.
“I like it. I’m a fast worker. I like the pillows,” Ieasha said.
Strong Support from Arden Leadership
Plant Manager Kinyo praised the crew:
“They’re doing a fantastic job. It’s a job with a purpose. It’s very much an important part of what we do.”
Andrea Williams, an Easterseals Northeast Indiana Fort Wayne staff member who supports the crew, said the workplace environment makes success possible.
“I think they’re great to work with,” she said. “Our area is very open. It makes it easy to do our jobs. They’re very friendly. Whenever we need something, there is somebody to help us.”
Teamwork That Stands Out
“They have a teamwork that is phenomenal,” Kinyo added.
